Foxconn to Expand iPhone Manufacturing in India, Targets 20 Million Units Annually

Foxconn expands in India with a new Bengaluru plant, set to produce 20M iPhones annually, boosting Apple's supply chain and creating thousands of jobs in 2025.

New Delhi: Foxconn, a key supplier for Apple, is set to expand its operations in India in 2025 as part of Apple’s strategy to diversify its supply chain beyond China. The company has been conducting restricted testing at its new facility in Bengaluru, which is nearing completion.

The expansion comes at a time when India is positioning itself as a global electronics manufacturing hub, backed by government initiatives such as the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme and the Make in India program.

Bengaluru Plant to Become India’s Largest iPhone Facility

Foxconn assembled 12 million iPhones in India in 2023. With the new Bengaluru unit, the company is targeting a sharp increase in production to 20 million units annually. Once operational, this facility will be Foxconn’s largest in India and the second-largest iPhone manufacturing plant globally.

The expanded manufacturing capacity is expected to support Apple’s supply chain in India and international markets. The move also aligns with the increasing demand for 5G smartphones.

Economic Impact and Job Creation

The investment is expected to create thousands of direct and indirect jobs in India, contributing to local employment and skill development. Foxconn’s expansion aligns with India’s push for self-reliance in electronics manufacturing, potentially attracting further investments from other global players.

India’s Role in Apple’s Supply Chain

Apple has been gradually increasing its production footprint in India, with major suppliers like Foxconn, Wistron, and Pegatron ramping up operations. With government incentives and infrastructure improvements, India is emerging as a significant player in global smartphone manufacturing.

Foxconn’s latest expansion underscores a long-term shift in Apple’s production strategy, reducing its dependence on China while strengthening India’s role in the global supply chain.
