New Delhi: The cybersecurity firm Tenable Holdings has announced a definitive agreement to acquire Apex Security, aiming to bolster its capabilities in managing AI-driven exposure risks. The move comes amid a growing demand for more robust oversight of artificial intelligence use within enterprise IT environments.
Addressing AI-Driven Security Gaps
With AI adoption increasing across sectors, cybersecurity challenges have evolved. Enterprises face new threats from AI-generated code, synthetic identities, and unregulated AI tools often operating outside approved frameworks, commonly referred to as “shadow AI.”
Tenable, which launched its AI Aware platform in 2024 to help companies identify and monitor AI usage, sees Apex’s technology as a way to go beyond detection. The acquisition is expected to help enterprises not only identify AI activity but also enforce governance policies and reduce exposure to new types of vulnerabilities created by AI-generated content or tools.
Expanding Risk Management Capabilities
Apex Security’s tools will be integrated into Tenable’s broader exposure management portfolio, enabling tighter control over both externally sourced and internally developed AI systems. This includes monitoring for unauthorized use of AI, as well as managing potential risks linked to AI-generated applications and code.
Tenable executives have positioned the deal as a strategic step to close gaps in enterprise cybersecurity frameworks, especially as organizations deploy AI at scale. The acquisition reflects a broader industry trend where security providers are adapting their offerings to account for the unique challenges posed by generative AI and machine learning technologies.
