New Delhi: Lava International has appointed Sunil Raina as its new Managing Director, marking a key shift in the leadership structure of the Indian mobile handset company. The appointment comes as part of an internal elevation, following Raina’s long-standing involvement with the firm in various senior roles over the past 15 years.
The move reflects Lava’s focus on maintaining strategic consistency amid increasing competition in India’s handset market. Raina, who previously served as Executive Director and President, Business Head at Lava, has played a central role in defining product strategy, expanding market reach, and supporting the brand’s positioning as a domestic alternative in the smartphone segment.
His elevation comes at a time when Indian handset companies are facing mounting pressure from global and Chinese brands. With this internal transition, Lava is signalling a preference for familiar leadership and long-term vision rather than a disruption-based model.
With over 26 years in the telecom and mobile sector, Raina brings cross-functional experience that includes marketing, brand positioning, and business leadership. His past roles at Lava also include Senior VP, Business Head for Xolo and VP, Chief Marketing Officer. Before joining Lava, Raina held senior marketing positions at telecom operators such as Telenor Group, Reliance Communications, Airtel, Tata Teleservices, and Hughes Telecom. This extensive industry exposure is expected to guide Lava’s operations as it adapts to evolving customer preferences, supply chain challenges, and regulatory developments in the mobile hardware ecosystem.
