Chennai: In a move to strengthen its manufacturing footprint in India, Seiko Epson Corporation has inaugurated its first ink tank printer manufacturing facility in Chennai.
The new plant, developed in collaboration with RIKUN—Epson’s trusted manufacturing partner—represents a significant stride in Epson’s global strategy focused on localization, innovation, and sustainability.
A Historic Milestone for Epson
Gracing the inauguration ceremony, Junkichi Yoshida, Global President of Seiko Epson Corporation, hailed the moment as a “historic occasion for Epson.” He expressed appreciation to Epson India, RIKUN, and the broader Seiko Epson team for bringing the vision to life.
Focus on EcoTank Printers and Sustainable Innovation
Scheduled to begin operations in October 2025, the Chennai facility will initially focus on producing Epson’s flagship EcoTank printers. These high-capacity, cartridge-free printers are designed to be cost-effective and environmentally friendly. Since their introduction, over 8 million EcoTank printers have been sold in India, contributing to a global total of more than 100 million units.
Strengthening Local Commitment
Samba Moorthy, President of Epson India, underscored the significance of the new facility, calling it “a milestone in Epson India’s journey.” He emphasized that local manufacturing enhances Epson’s ability to serve Indian consumers with greater agility and supports the broader vision of a self-reliant and sustainable manufacturing ecosystem in India.
Aligned with Make in India
Yoshida further highlighted the alignment of this initiative with the Government of India’s ‘Make in India’ campaign, reaffirming Epson’s commitment to local production, supply chain agility, and meaningful contribution to India’s economic development.
