New Delhi: MediaTek has introduced its latest flagship mobile processor, the Dimensity 9500, designed to power the next generation of 5G smartphones. The chip brings advancements in on-device AI, gaming performance, and energy efficiency, signaling the company’s continued push in the competitive high-end smartphone market.
The Dimensity 9500 adopts a third generation “All Big Core” CPU design that combines a 4.21GHz ultra-core, three premium cores, and four performance cores. MediaTek claims this setup delivers up to 29% higher single-core performance and 16% higher multi-core performance compared to the previous generation, while also reducing peak power consumption by 55%. This could translate into longer battery life in real-world smartphone use.
The platform also introduces a new cache and memory architecture with four-channel UFS 4.1 storage support, which doubles read and write speeds. This improvement is particularly aimed at handling large AI models more efficiently, with the company stating up to 40% faster AI model loading.
Graphics performance comes from the Arm G1-Ultra GPU, which MediaTek says improves peak performance by 33% and boosts efficiency by 42%. The GPU also enables 120FPS frame rate interpolation and supports advanced gaming features in Unreal Engine 5, including ray tracing and high-detail rendering.
AI processing is powered by the ninth-generation MediaTek NPU 990, equipped with Generative AI Engine 2.0. The NPU is designed to handle both large and small models more efficiently, with claimed improvements in speed and reductions in power use. MediaTek notes that the platform supports 3-billion parameter language models, 128K token long text processing, and high-resolution image generation.
