Mumbai: Autope Payment Solutions and Mumbai Metro One have introduced a smart locker network across 12 stations, adding a new commuter-focused service to the city’s transit infrastructure. The deployment includes 996 digital lockers aimed at improving short-term storage options and supporting emerging demand for organised last-mile and middle-mile logistics.
The lockers are accessible through an app, QR code or SMS, and are equipped with CCTV surveillance and OTP-based authentication. Two compartment sizes are available, with hourly charges of Rs 20 for smaller units and Rs 30 for medium-sized units. The model is structured to support everyday use cases, including parcel collection, temporary storage of personal items and e-commerce deliveries.
Autope said it is in discussions with major e-commerce platforms to integrate delivery services with the locker network, reflecting a broader industry trend of using transit hubs to streamline parcel distribution and reduce pressure on last-mile logistics. Mumbai Metro One stated that the initiative is part of its ongoing efforts to modernise station services and improve passenger experience.
Autope, which previously deployed a similar system in the Delhi Metro, plans to expand the solution to other transport networks in India and is evaluating international opportunities as cities adopt digitally connected mobility infrastructure.
