Microsoft Confirms 20 million Paid Copilot Users as Large Enterprises Drive Adoption

Microsoft Confirms 20 million Paid Copilot Users as Large Enterprises Drive Adoption
New Delhi, Apr 30, (New Delhi): Microsoft has disclosed fresh data on Copilot adoption.
Satya Nadella said during recent earnings call that Microsoft has reached 20 million paid enterprise users for its Microsoft 365 Copilot, indicating steady growth in enterprise AI adoption despite concerns over usage levels.
Enterprise AI Adoption Gains Momentum
The company reported a sharp rise in large-scale deployments. Organisations with more than 50,000 Copilot seats have quadrupled in recent quarters. Companies including Accenture, Mercedes-Benz, Bayer, Johnson & Johnson and Roche are among the largest adopters, with each crossing tens of thousands of seats. Microsoft confirmed that its deal with Accenture covering over 740,000 seats, is its biggest Copilot deployment so far.
Copilot Usage and Engagement Trends
Microsoft also addressed concerns around actual usage. Nadella noted that Copilot queries per user have increased nearly 20% quarter-on-quarter. Weekly engagement levels are now comparable to tools like Outlook, suggesting that AI assistants are becoming part of routine enterprise workflows rather than occasional tools.
AI Agents And Multi-Model Capabilities
A key driver behind this growth is Copilot’s “agent mode,” which is now the default experience across apps like Word, Excel and PowerPoint. The feature allows users to execute multi-step tasks and automate workflows directly within documents. Microsoft also said Copilot supports multiple AI models, including systems from Anthropic, enabling dynamic model selection to improve response quality.
The latest data signals that enterprise AI tools are moving beyond pilot stages, with companies integrating them into daily operations at scale.
