New Delhi: Software giant Microsoft Corporation intends to lay off “thousands” more positions next month, especially in sales, after laying off 6,000 workers in May.
The corporation also stated that it is looking to “trim its workforce” in light of rising artificial intelligence (AI) expenditures. The cuts are anticipated in early July, after Microsoft’s fiscal year ends.
According to reports, layoffs are anticipated to occur across all teams, with sales staff likely to be the most hit. Additionally, it was also stated that the dates of the layoffs can be altered.
Microsoft experienced a significant round of layoffs earlier in May that affected 6,000 positions, or 3% of its staff, primarily in engineering and product teams, leaving customer-facing positions like sales and marketing unaffected.
The Silicon Valley behemoth had already told staff in April that it intended to hire outside companies to handle more software sales to small and mid-sized clients.
According to Microsoft, it periodically reviews its organisational structure to ensure that it is making growth-oriented investments.
Following the 6,000 job cuts, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella informed attendees at a town hall that the company’s decision was not a reflection on employee performance but rather was a part of a larger corporate restructuring.
