IIT Varanasi Alumnus Satish Sharma Takes Over as CMO at PhysicsWallah

New Delhi: Edtech firm PhysicsWallah has appointed Satish Sharma as its new Chief Marketing Officer (CMO), signaling a shift in its marketing strategy as the company continues to expand across new educational segments. Sharma, an IIT Varanasi graduate, brings more than two decades of experience in digital transformation, strategic growth, and brand development.

PhysicsWallah, which began as a YouTube channel in 2016 and has since evolved into a funded edtech startup with hybrid learning centres across India, is now in a phase of structural scaling. The appointment of Sharma appears to align with this transition, with the company aiming to enhance its branding efforts and marketing execution across diverse verticals.

The edtech firm is currently active in test preparation, upskilling, higher education, and education abroad. It also runs centres in multiple cities to offer hybrid learning models supported by technology. With backing from investors such as Lightspeed Ventures, WestBridge, Hornbill Capital, and GSV Ventures, PhysicsWallah is navigating a competitive sector that includes players like BYJU’S, Unacademy, and Vedantu.

Before joining PhysicsWallah, Sharma co-founded Unyscape, a marketing and analytics firm that served global clients across industries. At Unyscape, he held dual roles as Chief Operating Officer and Chief Marketing Officer. He has previously worked with IBM and Tata Steel, gaining experience in technology and operations at scale.

His appointment is expected to support PhysicsWallah’s efforts in refining its brand communication, especially as the company attempts to differentiate itself in India’s saturated edtech market. According to the company, Sharma’s role will focus on building data-driven and scalable marketing systems aimed at measurable outcomes.
