Calderys to Invest $100 Million in Odisha to Set Up World’s Largest Refractories Hub

Bhubaneswar: Paris-headquartered Calderys, a global leader in refractory solutions with operations in over 30 countries, has announced plans to invest more than $100 million in Odisha.

The company is developing what will be the world’s largest single-site production hub for refractories and steel casting fluxes at Bhuinpur, Khorda district, near Bhubaneswar.

The project, designed in six phases, has already completed its first stage with refractory manufacturing commencing at the site. Full-fledged production is expected to begin in the second half of 2026. The facility will cater to both domestic demand and export markets across the Asia-Pacific region.

Ish Mohan Garg, Senior Vice President and Managing Director, Calderys APAC, noted that India’s $2 billion refractory market is set to double by 2030, driven by a surge in infrastructure, manufacturing, and energy projects. He emphasized that Odisha was chosen for its investment due to the efficiency of the state’s governance and fast decision-making processes.

The company has already launched its first production line of acidic monolithic refractories, known for exceptional chemical resistance and thermal stability, with sales underway in the domestic market.

Odisha continues to emerge as an industrial hub, adding refractories to its growing portfolio after significant investments in steel, aluminum, mining, and semiconductors.
