Mumbai: DE-CIX, a leading Internet Exchange (IX) operator, has announced its implementation as a Google Gold Verified Peering Provider (VPP), becoming one of the first IX operators globally to achieve this status.
The Google VPP Program recognizes Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and IXs that deliver diverse, redundant, and highly available connectivity to Google’s global network.
For Google customers in India, ranging from small businesses to large enterprises, this designation means more reliable and seamless access to Google services such as Search, Ads, YouTube, and Google Cloud applications.
Why VPP Status Matters
Google only peers directly with networks and IXs that meet its strict requirements around expertise, redundancy, and infrastructure reliability. Verified Peering Providers like DE-CIX manage these direct connections on behalf of other networks, ensuring continued access to all Google services.
By working with a VPP-certified IX, enterprises and ISPs gain the confidence of operating over infrastructure that has been vetted for resilience and diversity. In practice, this means Indian businesses connecting through DE-CIX can access Google’s suite of services with greater reliability and lower latency, supporting smoother digital operations.
Peering Service Already Live Across Regions
As part of its VPP role, DE-CIX is enabling Google prefixes to be consumable through its peering service. The service is already live at DE-CIX locations in India, the US, Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, Turkiye, and the Nordic region. A phased rollout is underway to extend coverage to additional IX locations worldwide.
Currently, DE-CIX customers maintain thousands of peering sessions with Google globally, often across multiple exchange locations. Peering with Google through DE-CIX allows networks to bypass congestion on the public Internet, offering high-capacity, low-latency access to Google services.
Strengthening India’s Internet Backbone
With this milestone, DE-CIX strengthens its role in India’s Internet ecosystem by offering secure, redundant, and high-performance connectivity to one of the world’s most widely used digital ecosystems. For businesses and service providers, the partnership promises not just improved access to Google services but also a step forward in building India’s digital backbone for the future.
