New Delhi: Ola Electric announced its foray into India’s Rs 1 trillion battery energy storage systems (BESS) market with the launch of Ola Shakti, its first residential energy storage solution. The move marks the company’s expansion beyond electric mobility into clean energy solutions for the home.
In a regulatory filing, the company stated, “We have built world-class battery and cell technology for electric mobility. Ola Shakti extends that innovation to homes, helping them store and use clean energy intelligently.”
The company added that Ola Shakti is a “natural next step” as it leverages Ola’s 4680 cell technology, Gigafactory production capabilities, and nationwide sales network to rapidly scale distribution without additional investment. With India’s BESS market projected to exceed Rs 3 trillion by 2030, Ola Electric expects its annual consumption to reach 5 GWh in the coming years.
Ola Shakti offers several advanced features, including instant power switching (0 milliseconds) for uninterrupted electricity, smart energy management to optimise consumption and reduce costs, and voltage protection across a wide 120V–290V range. The system promises automotive-grade safety, up to 98% efficiency and zero maintenance costs.
Designed for Indian conditions, the product’s IP67-rated batteries are weatherproof and capable of withstanding dust, water, and heavy rain. Additional features include Time-of-Day (ToD) charging, smart backup prioritisation, remote diagnostics, over-the-air (OTA) software updates, and scalable expansion options.
Ola Shakti will be available in four configurations – 1.5 kWh, 3 kWh, 5.2 kWh and 9.1 kWh – priced at Rs 29,999, Rs 55,999, Rs 1,19,999 and Rs 1,59,999, respectively. The introductory pricing applies to the first 10,000 units.
Customers can reserve the product for Rs 999, with deliveries slated to begin on Makar Sankranti next year. Ola Electric’s entry into the home energy segment aligns with India’s accelerating shift toward sustainable, self-reliant power solutions.
