Why Indians Created Over 1 Billion Images On ChatGPT In A Month

New Delhi, May 18(CXO Media): India has emerged as the largest market for ChatGPT Images 2.0, with users driving demand for AI-powered portraits, anime edits, sticker packs, and personalised visuals.

In less than a month after the feature launched, users in the country generated more than 1 billion AI images, showing how quickly visual AI tools are being adopted beyond professional use cases.

The scale of usage was recently acknowledged by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman on X, where he pointed to India’s growing engagement with AI-powered tools. The trend suggests that Indian users are increasingly using AI image generation for creative expression, digital identity and social media content rather than only productivity.

Among the most-used formats are cinematic portrait collages with Indian outfits and warm lighting, “Mini Me” 3D avatars, anime-style edits, personalised chibi sticker packs, fashion studio portraits, and AI-enhanced photo restoration.

Travel collages and underwater portraits have also gained traction, particularly among creators making personalised content for Instagram and messaging platforms.
The popularity of these prompts highlights a shift in how people are using generative AI in India.

Instead of limiting AI tools to work-related tasks, many users are adopting them for entertainment, self-expression, and visual storytelling. The rise of trends such as manga comic strips and stylised profile images also points to growing demand for personalised digital content in the country.
