New Delhi: MapmyIndia’s flagship Mappls App has introduced two pioneering features to make driving in India smarter and more economical. These are AI-powered live traffic signal timers and NHAI annual toll pass savings.
This marks the first time an indigenous navigation platform offers real-time signal countdowns and direct toll cost comparisons.
Developed in partnership with the Bengaluru Traffic Police, Arcadis and National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), the updates enable commuters to view live signal status up to 500 metres in advance across more than 125 smart signals in Bengaluru.
Users can see green, amber and red countdowns on their screens, helping them anticipate delays, reduce stress in heavy traffic and improve estimated arrival times. The company plans to extend this feature to other cities soon.
The second addition integrates NHAI Annual Toll Pass data into Mappls, showing potential toll savings on the route before a trip begins. Drivers can instantly calculate how much they could save and plan smarter, cost-effective journeys across national highways.
Rakesh Verma, Co-Founder and Managing Director of MapmyIndia, said the innovations will save commuters time, money and stress while supporting a larger vision of a smarter mobility ecosystem.
Meanwhile, Bengaluru Police Commissioner Karthik Reddy called the project “a major step toward enhancing traffic management” and NHAI’s technological arm COO A.R. Chitranshi highlighted its role in providing “efficient, transparent and cost-effective” travel experiences.
The new tools are live on the Mappls iOS app, while Android support is coming soon. By combining real-time traffic intelligence with toll cost optimisation, MapmyIndia aims to reduce congestion, improve road discipline and create a seamless travel experience for millions of Indian motorists.
