Perplexity Rolls Out Comet AI Browser in India with Airtel Partnership, Privacy-Focused Features

Perplexity launches Comet AI browser in India, blending AI-driven productivity tools with strong privacy safeguards, free Airtel Pro access, and cross-platform support.

New Delhi: Perplexity has launched its Comet AI browser in India, introducing a tool designed to combine browsing with workflow automation and enhanced privacy safeguards. Unlike traditional browsers, Comet AI integrates artificial intelligence to support tasks such as scheduling, drafting emails, comparing prices, managing projects, and processing online transactions.

Built on Chromium, the browser comes with an AI-powered sidebar that can summarise documents, manage multiple tabs, and assist in productivity. The software is currently available for Windows and macOS, while pre-orders have opened for Android users and iOS support is expected in the coming months.

To expand its user base, Perplexity has partnered with Airtel to provide one year of free access to Perplexity Pro for Airtel subscribers. The move also reflects the company’s effort to strengthen its presence in India by hiring locally and engaging with the country’s growing digital ecosystem.

A key differentiator of Comet AI is its emphasis on data privacy. The browser uses end-to-end encryption, local storage for browsing history and AI interactions, and compatibility with password managers. It also complies with enterprise-grade security standards, aiming to attract both individual and enterprise users who are cautious about data handling in AI-powered platforms.

Industry observers note that India’s rapid adoption of AI tools and its expanding digital economy make the country a strategic market for launches like Comet AI. By linking productivity features with security-focused design, the browser could appeal to professionals seeking alternatives to conventional browsers. However, its long-term adoption will likely depend on how effectively users balance trust in AI-driven automation with concerns around privacy and control.
