IBM to Invest in Quantum Computing, Cloud Infrastructure in India

New Delhi: IBM would invest in quantum computing and cloud infrastructure across India, as shared by Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw.

The planned investment is expected to generate opportunities for the nation’s growing young talent pool. Vaishnaw shared the details via a social media post on X after holding high-level meetings with senior officials of IBM India.

Quantum computing finds its applications in specialised fields such as material science and cryptography, as well as in areas like drug discovery, financial modelling, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and advanced research.

The discussions around the investment began when Vaishnaw met IBM CEO and Chairman Arvind Krishna on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum summit at Davos. The two discussed ways to strengthen India’s capabilities in advanced semiconductor technologies and foster talent development in the country to enhance the emerging microchip ecosystem.

Krishna had also expressed his company’s continued commitment to India’s growth strategy while also expressing interest in partnering with India to leverage the talent pool.
