Noida: Chinese smartphone and electronics brand OnePlus has partnered with Noida-based Optiemus Electronics to manufacture Internet of Things (IoT) products in India. The move aligns with the company’s broader push for domestic production under its Project Starlight initiative, which focuses on strengthening local supply chains and enhancing self-reliance in manufacturing.
Production Starts with Bullets Wireless Z3
The first product to be locally manufactured under this collaboration is the OnePlus Bullets Wireless Z3 neckband. The device is being produced at the Optiemus facility in Noida, where the focus is also on increasing localisation at the bill-of-materials (BOM) level to reduce import dependency and production costs.
OnePlus already assembles smartphones in India and is now expanding its manufacturing footprint by adding IoT products such as true wireless stereo (TWS) earbuds and neckbands. These devices, which are designed to meet varying price segments in India, will now be produced locally to meet growing demand and comply with the government’s Make in India push.
Strategy Tied to Project Starlight
The latest development is part of Project Starlight, OnePlus’ ongoing strategy aimed at deepening its manufacturing roots in India. The project focuses on not just assembling products but also building a more resilient and cost-effective supply chain by sourcing more components locally.
Optiemus Role in the Supply Chain
As a key partner, Optiemus Electronics will manage end-to-end manufacturing processes. The company is tasked with enhancing production efficiency and local sourcing, which may play a role in reducing the product launch timelines and stabilising inventory across retail channels in India.
While both companies have spoken about innovation and economic growth, the partnership also reflects a broader trend among global electronics brands to shift more manufacturing operations to India due to geopolitical and economic shifts, including the need to diversify supply chains outside of China.
