Airtel Business, Swift Navigation to Roll Out India’s First Centimetre-Level Positioning Service

New Delhi: Airtel Business has partnered with US-based Swift Navigation to introduce a cloud-based location service in India that promises centimetre-level accuracy. The service, called Airtel-Skylark™ Precise Positioning, will initially be deployed across 35,000 square kilometres in the National Capital Region (NCR) later this year, with phased expansion planned across the country.

Unlike standard Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS), which often provide location accuracy within a few metres, Airtel-Skylark™ claims improvements up to 100 times more precise. The technology combines Swift Navigation’s Skylark corrections platform with Airtel’s 4G and 5G networks and uses artificial intelligence and machine learning for real-time positioning.

The new service is being positioned as critical infrastructure for industries that rely on precise location data. Potential applications include autonomous mobility, satellite-based tolling, emergency response, logistics, agriculture, and digital mapping. For instance, in transportation, the service could support advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) and autonomous vehicles, while in agriculture, it could enable automated tractors and precision farming practices. In logistics and last-mile delivery, it may help improve route optimisation and arrival-time predictions in dense urban areas.

Executives from both companies said the partnership addresses a growing need for reliable, high-accuracy geospatial data as India scales up its digital infrastructure and prepares for next-generation applications. By entering the precise-positioning market, Airtel Business positions itself as a key player in enabling location-dependent technologies.
