Persistent Systems Ties Up With IIT Kharagpur For AI Lab To Scale Enterprise AI Adoption In India

Pune, May 5(CXO Media): Persistent Systems has partnered with IIT Kharagpur to set up an AI innovation lab focused on enterprise-scale deployment.
The Pune-based IT services company signed a memorandum of understanding with IIT Kharagpur to build the facility within its computer science and engineering department. The initiative comes as enterprises in India accelerate adoption of artificial intelligence, moving from pilot projects to large-scale deployment, driving demand for AI talent, applied research and scalable solutions.

The AI lab will focus on developing domain-specific solutions across BFSI, healthcare and education, with growing interest in generative AI, machine learning and automation. The collaboration aims to create industry-ready talent while advancing research in secure and responsible AI systems.
Persistent Systems plans to use the lab to develop reusable AI frameworks, strengthen digital engineering capabilities and support enterprise AI adoption across sectors. The facility will also be equipped with advanced computing infrastructure to enable both theoretical research and real-world deployment.

The partnership is part of a broader trend in India’s AI ecosystem where IT firms and academic institutions are collaborating to bridge skill gaps and accelerate innovation. IIT Kharagpur is expanding its AI research footprint while integrating industry-led problem solving into its academic programs.
The development follows Persistent Systems’ recent growth, with the company reporting around 34% year-on-year rise in net profit to Rs 529 crore and nearly 25% increase in revenue, driven by demand for AI-led, cloud and digital transformation services across key sectors.
