Meta Layoffs Begin This Week As Zuckerberg Pushes AI Overhaul, 7,000 Staff Shifted
New Delhi, May 19(CXO Media): Meta is set to begin another round of layoffs this week as the company sharpens its focus on artificial intelligence. The move comes as CEO Mark Zuckerberg pushes a major restructuring plan to make teams leaner and more AI-focused.
An internal memo shared with employees said Meta is restructuring teams around “AI-native” workflows. The company plans to place workers in units such as Applied AI Engineering (AAI) and Agent Transformation Accelerator (ATA) XFN to speed up product development and decision-making.
Reports suggest the Facebook parent may cut nearly 10 per cent of its workforce starting May 20, with more layoffs possible later this year. Meta had close to 78,000 employees as of March-end.The latest cuts reflect Meta’s growing investment in AI infrastructure, one of the company’s biggest spending priorities. Zuckerberg had earlier told employees that rising AI costs were reshaping how Meta allocates money between technology and workforce spending.
The restructuring also comes at a time when technology companies are increasingly linking job reductions with automation and AI-led efficiency measures.
