Amazon Steps Up Quick Commerce Race With 1,000 Eicher Electric Trucks Across India

New Delhi, May 18(CXO Media): Amazon India plans to deploy 1,000 Eicher electric trucks by 2028 as it expands Amazon Now and sharpens its quick commerce push amid competition from Blinkit and Zepto. Amazon India is increasing its logistics capacity as competition in quick commerce intensifies.

The company on Monday said it plans to deploy around 1,000 electric trucks developed with VE Commercial Vehicles (VECV) by 2028 to support the expansion of Amazon Now, its fast delivery service. The rollout will begin in Delhi-NCR, Bengaluru and Mumbai, key markets where quick commerce players such as Blinkit, Zepto and Swiggy Instamart are rapidly expanding.

Amazon’s Quick Commerce Push

The new fleet will include custom-built Eicher Pro-X electric trucks designed for frequent city deliveries between Amazon fulfilment centres and smaller hubs closer to customers. According to the company, the trucks are expected to operate on routes of 100–180 km daily and can be fast-charged in around 50 minutes.

The expansion comes at a time when India’s quick commerce market is witnessing aggressive growth, with platforms competing to shorten delivery timelines and expand city coverage. Amazon recently said Amazon Now will be expanded to 100 cities with more than 1,000 micro-fulfilment centres.

Electric Vehicles In Delivery Network

Amazon said it has already deployed around 50 of these electric trucks and currently operates more than 12,000 EVs across India. In 2025 alone, the company deployed over 100 electric trucks across cities including Delhi NCR, Hyderabad, Mumbai and Kolkata as part of efforts to reduce transport emissions and improve delivery efficiency.

Amazon and VECV have been working on electric truck solutions since 2022, reflecting a wider shift toward EV-led logistics as India’s e-commerce and quick commerce market expands.
