Pune: Tech Mahindra has become a member of the AI-RAN Alliance, a global initiative focused on integrating artificial intelligence (AI) into Radio Access Networks (RAN) to improve 5G and future network performance. The move reflects the increasing role of AI in optimizing telecom infrastructure.
AI-RAN Alliance and Its Objectives
The AI-RAN Alliance, established in February 2024, brings together technology firms and academic institutions to enhance RAN systems with AI-driven solutions. Founding members include Amazon Web Services, Arm, DeepSig, Ericsson, Microsoft, Nokia, Northeastern University, NVIDIA, Samsung Electronics, SoftBank, and T-Mobile USA.
The alliance focuses on three key areas:
- Improving RAN capabilities using AI.
- Enhancing infrastructure utilization by integrating AI into RAN processes.
- Deploying AI services at the network edge to optimize operations and support new services for mobile users.
Tech Mahindra’s Role
Tech Mahindra plans to contribute its expertise in network architecture, AI, Open RAN, and 5G technologies. The company sees this as part of its broader strategy to work with global telecom leaders in shaping AI-powered networks.
“AI is already transforming networks, and collaborations like AI-RAN Alliance help us work with telecom operators and AI experts to develop next-generation solutions,” said Manish Mangal, Chief Technology Officer, Telecom & Global Business Head, Network Services at Tech Mahindra.
Growing Industry Participation
Several companies have recently joined the AI-RAN Alliance to strengthen AI integration in telecom networks. Dell announced its membership earlier this month, aiming to apply its AI solutions to improve network efficiency. Semiconductor firm EdgeCortix joined in December 2024 to focus on energy-efficient AI-RAN systems.
The growing participation of telecom and technology firms in the alliance highlights a shift toward AI-driven network optimization, as operators look for ways to enhance performance and reduce costs in next-generation mobile networks.
