Mumbai: The Indian Banks’ Association (IBA), the apex body representing the banking sector in India, has elected CS Setty as its new Chairman. He succeeds MV Rao, Chief Executive of the Central Bank of India, who served as the last chairman.
Setty previously served as the Chairman of the State Bank of India (SBI)). His appointment was confirmed during a meeting of the IBA’s Managing Committee. Setty will lead the association until the next Annual General Meeting (AGM).
With over 35 years of experience in the banking sector, Setty began his career as a probationary officer at SBI in 1988. Throughout his tenure at the bank, he held key leadership positions, including heading international banking, global markets, and technology verticals, before he became the 27th Chairman of SBI in August 2024.
Besides Setty’s appointment, the Managing Committee also approved the appointment of three Deputy Chairmen: A. Manimekhalai, Managing Director & CEO of Union Bank of India; Swarup Kumar Saha, Managing Director & CEO of Punjab & Sind Bank; and Madhav Nair, Country Head & CEO-India of Bank of Bahrain & Kuwait B.S.C.In addition, B. Ramesh Babu, Managing Director & CEO of Karur Vysya Bank, has been appointed as the Honorary Secretary of the IBA.
