Intel Appoints Sachin Katti as New CTO and Head of AI

Sachin Katti, CTO & Head of AI, Intel

Bengaluru: In a major leadership shift, Intel has appointed Sachin Katti as its new Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and Head of AI. The move is part of a broader strategic reorganisation aimed at streamlining decision-making and boosting the company’s focus on artificial intelligence. Katti succeeds Greg Lavender, who served as CTO from 2021 to 2025 and focused on software strategy, AI, and confidential computing.

Katti previously led Intel’s networking and edge computing division, where he played a key role in advancing 5G and edge AI technologies. In his new role, he will oversee Intel’s AI strategy, product roadmap, and research at Intel Labs. He will also be responsible for nurturing Intel’s relationships with startups and developer communities—an area that is becoming increasingly critical as Intel seeks to catch up with rivals in the AI space.

This leadership consolidation marks a strategic pivot for Intel, as the company seeks to centralise innovation under a single leader and break away from its previous structure, where AI was housed as a sub-unit within the data centre business. The elevation of AI to a top-level priority highlights Intel’s renewed commitment to regaining its technological edge.

Katti holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and a B.Tech in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay. He also serves as Co-Chair of the Technical Steering Board at the O-RAN Alliance.
