Serving 1,00,000+ lives per day, it has created an integrated healthcare ecosystem that offers patients seamless access anytime and anywhere, 24×7, 365 days a year.
With its healthcare services available in 16 Indian languages to enable customer-friendly consultation, MediBuddy is bridging the urban-rural quality healthcare divide. MediBuddy offers online and offline doctor consultations, medicine delivery, lab tests at home, mental health consultations, and surgery care, among other healthcare services.
MediBuddy has built a comprehensive digital healthcare ecosystem. From a technology standpoint, what were the key challenges in integrating services like online consultations, lab tests, and pharmacy deliveries under one platform?
Building a unified digital healthcare platform that integrates diverse services presented several challenges. One major hurdle was ensuring seamless interoperability between multiple healthcare providers, partners, and internal systems. Each vertical comes with its own operational complexity and regulatory considerations—so we had to build robust APIs and scalable microservices architecture that allowed these services to work in harmony.
Another challenge was delivering a consistent and intuitive user experience across services. Patients often switch between consulting a doctor, booking a test, and ordering medication, so we focused on designing a unified flow with minimal friction. Data standardisation and real-time synchronisation were also crucial, especially in ensuring that a doctor’s prescription could directly flow into the pharmacy and diagnostic modules without manual intervention.
In an era of rapid digital transformation, how is MediBuddy leveraging emerging technologies such as AI, machine learning, or blockchain to improve patient outcomes and enhance user experience?
MediBuddy has been at the forefront of adopting emerging technologies to enhance patient care, focusing on creating a seamless, efficient, and personalised experience across the entire patient journey. At the core of our innovations is CLARA, our proprietary clinical AI system. It powers several features, including a chatbot that streamlines patient-doctor interactions, a clinical decision support system for doctors, and an AI-based prescription quality agent (Rxpert) to ensure prescription accuracy.
Further enhancing the experience, MediBuddy leverages QuAFI (Quality Assessment and Feedback Interactive System), a patented real-time feedback system for online consultations. It analyses key consultation parameters like communication, user experience, and consultation quality, providing doctors with personalised feedback. This allows for continuous learning and improves doctor-patient interactions, ultimately enhancing remote patient care and contributing to better health outcomes. In addition to this, the module supports services like medicine delivery, lab tests, surgeries, and follow-up reminders, ensuring continuous care and patient engagement throughout the healthcare process. MediBuddy also has a proprietary fraud detection engine called SHERLOCK. It is an AI-based system designed to detect fraudulent activities such as forged bills or false prescriptions, ensuring trust and integrity across our ecosystem.
Additionally, MediBuddy offers personalised health recommendations. It suggests actions based on each individual’s health profile, enhancing the overall healthcare experience by ensuring that patients receive the most relevant guidance at every step. Through these innovations, MediBuddy is continually improving patient experience by providing accessible & high-quality healthcare services.
With India’s diverse population and varying levels of digital literacy, how does your tech team ensure accessibility and inclusivity across urban and rural users?
Understanding India’s linguistic and digital diversity, we have taken a multifaceted approach to ensure accessibility. Our customer-facing teams and clinical teams have members who, between them, are proficient in over 16 languages, enabling effective communication with users from different regions. We also have our teams present in over 35 cities across India to deliver services directly and via our hospitals or diagnostic lab partners in nearby locations. Recognising that some users may have limited internet access or digital literacy, we have ensured that our services are accessible via voice calls or audio messages. Furthermore, our application supports both English and Hindi, and we are exploring the deployment of voice-based large language models (LLMs) to make our app more language-agnostic and user-friendly in the future.
Data privacy is a growing concern in digital healthcare. What measures has MediBuddy implemented to secure user data and ensure compliance with health data protection norms?
At MediBuddy, as India’s largest digital healthcare company, we ensure compliance with all applicable laws, including Indian data protection regulations. We prioritise data privacy by providing our customers with full control over their personal information, ensuring they can make informed decisions about its usage.
To safeguard customer data, MediBuddy employs advanced encryption techniques to securely store all sensitive information. As an ISO-certified organisation, we undergo regular information security audits, reinforcing our unwavering commitment to data security and privacy. Our proactive measures demonstrate our dedication to maintaining the highest standards of customer safety and confidentiality.
How has the role of the CTO evolved at MediBuddy as the platform scaled from a startup to one of India’s leading digital health providers?
In the scaling journey of MediBuddy, from being an early-stage startup to becoming one of India’s leading digital health providers, my role as CTO has significantly evolved. Initially, most focus was on problem and product discovery, hands-on technology building, and engineering management. However, as the organisation expanded, the role has transformed into a more enabling one.
Today, as CTO, my role is to innovate, build, maintain, and scale our technology infrastructure and align our tech vision with the company’s long-term goals. This includes building and maintaining platforms that support millions of users while upholding quality and trust. The responsibilities now extend beyond engineering to attracting high-quality talent, mapping out the technology roadmap, and ensuring the development of new-age technologies that propel the company forward.
Additionally, I am focused on enabling every team member of MediBuddy to leapfrog into the new age of technology, not just within the tech teams but across every function and discipline. The role is focused on maintaining a customer-centric approach, ensuring that the technology solutions not only solve challenging problems but do so in a way that prioritises customer experience.
What innovations or tech upgrades can users expect from MediBuddy in the coming year? Any plans to expand into new healthcare verticals or geographies?
Looking ahead, MediBuddy is focused on further democratising healthcare services, particularly in tier two and tier three cities. We are exploring the integration of voice-based large language models (LLMs) to make our platform more intuitive and accessible to users from diverse linguistic backgrounds. At the same time, we are leveraging data intelligence to assess & monitor quality of care, to offer personalised treatment plans, and to improve healthcare delivery experience to meet the unique needs of each individual.
We are also committed to addressing the healthcare needs of underserved populations in remote areas across India and enhancing customer experience through high-tech solutions. In addition, we aim to improve the post-consultation journey by digitising lab reports, identifying abnormal parameters, and offering tailored recommendations for action. This includes launching healthcare management programmes aimed at diabetes, women’s health, elder care and maternity care management, etc., each designed to provide continuous support and personalised care to those who need it. By harnessing advanced technologies, MediBuddy continues to enhance healthcare delivery, ensuring timely, high-quality care and a seamless user experience for all.
