Tata Power Appoints Sanjay Banga as the new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd (TPREL)

New Delhi: Tata Power has announced a leadership transition in its renewable energy subsidiary, appointing Sanjay Banga as the new Managing Director and CEO of Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd (TPREL), effective June 1, 2025. The leadership change follows the resignation of Deepesh Nanda, President – Renewables, who will step down on May 31, 2025, due to personal reasons. His departure marks a significant shift in the company’s renewable energy vertical, which is a core area of focus for Tata Power’s long-term strategy.

Sanjay Banga currently heads Tata Power’s Transmission and Distribution (T&D) vertical, overseeing operations in key regions including Mumbai, Delhi, Odisha, and Ajmer. With nearly 30 years of experience in the power sector, his appointment reflects an effort to consolidate leadership expertise across critical infrastructure domains within the group.

Before taking on the T&D portfolio, he served as CEO of Tata Power Delhi Distribution Ltd (Tata Power-DDL), a joint venture between Tata Power and the Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi. In that role, he managed large-scale distribution networks and was involved in regulatory compliance, technology integration, and operational process reforms.

His experience in managing regulatory frameworks, project implementation, and utility efficiency positions him to take on responsibilities in the renewable sector, where policy shifts and decarbonisation goals are reshaping business operations. The appointment comes at a time when Tata Power is expanding its footprint in clean energy and integrating its renewable, distribution, and transmission businesses more cohesively.
