Uber Pilots Motorhome Service in Delhi-NCR, Expands Intercity Network by 50%

New Delhi: Uber India is testing a motorhome-based intercity travel service in the Delhi-NCR region, reflecting a strategic shift towards premium on-demand mobility.

The pilot service, operational from August 7 to September 6, is available to book via the Uber app starting August 4. Designed for small groups, each motorhome accommodates 4–5 passengers and includes a driver, an assistant, and amenities such as a TV, microwave, mini-fridge, and toilet. The offering targets weekend travellers and event-goers seeking flexible, comfort-driven transport options.

The launch coincides with a significant expansion of Uber’s Intercity product, now covering over 3,000 city pairs, a 50% increase. The company cites changing travel patterns and rising demand for domestic road tourism as key drivers. High-traffic routes include Delhi–Agra, Mumbai–Pune, Bengaluru–Mysuru, and Ahmedabad–Vadodara, where users are increasingly opting for Uber’s intercity services for leisure, family trips, and pilgrimages in addition to business travel.

The initiative reflects Uber’s efforts to explore niche use cases within the broader intercity mobility market. While core services remain focused on affordability and access, the pilot suggests an interest in testing how consumers respond to higher-end offerings that blend hospitality and transport.

Whether the motorhome service will be scaled depends on user response, but its trial indicates a growing focus on premium mobility experiences within India’s evolving transportation landscape.
