New Delhi: OpenText is increasing its reliance on India as a hub for global technology development. Of its 9,000 engineers worldwide, more than 6,000 are now based in India, underscoring the country’s role in shaping the company’s strategy in artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and information governance.
India, once viewed largely as a back-office base for multinational firms, is now taking on a central role in leading innovation. OpenText’s growing investment reflects a broader shift among Global Capability Centres (GCCs), which are moving beyond cost-saving functions to drive research, product development, and digital transformation for their parent companies.
Industry estimates indicate that India hosts over 1,800 GCCs, with several focusing on advanced technologies to support global operations. OpenText’s positioning in this landscape highlights how multinational firms are increasingly depending on India’s talent pool to deliver strategic innovation rather than only operational support.
The trend also aligns with India’s broader push to expand its digital ecosystem and strengthen its presence in areas such as cybersecurity and AI. As global companies navigate technology transitions and heightened cyber risks, India’s engineering workforce is emerging as a critical base for innovation-led growth.
