C-DOT Sets Up Quantum Communication Centre in Amaravati to Boost India’s Secure Tech Capabilities

Amaravati: The Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT) will establish a dedicated Centre of Excellence for quantum communication in Amaravati. The move follows a memorandum of understanding signed with the Andhra Pradesh Government, placing the state’s Amaravati Quantum Valley (AQV) initiative at the centre of emerging quantum research and infrastructure efforts.

The agreement positions C-DOT, DoT’s key R&D organisation as a contributor to India’s expanding quantum security ecosystem. The organisation has been working on indigenous quantum communication and security tools, which are currently deployed across select research institutions, government facilities and telecom networks. Its new centre in Amaravati is expected to focus on developing quantum communication systems, privacy-enhancing technologies and quantum-safe solutions in line with the National Quantum Mission.

Officials involved in the project noted that the facility will also work on cost-effective sub-components for quantum systems and support the creation of an integrated testbed for quantum security. This aligns with national efforts to build secure digital infrastructure that can withstand emerging threats from quantum computing. The centre will also factor in compliance frameworks such as the Digital Personal Data Protection Act to ensure future deployments meet evolving data protection standards.

The Amaravati Quantum Valley programme, announced by the state as part of its technology roadmap, aims to develop a local ecosystem for quantum hardware, software and talent development. By bringing C-DOT into the fold, Andhra Pradesh seeks to strengthen collaborative research and enable access to critical R&D resources for institutions and industry players working in the field.

The MoU was exchanged during the 30th CII Partnership Summit in Visakhapatnam in the presence of Andhra Pradesh IT Minister Nara Lokesh, reflecting the state’s interest in positioning Amaravati as a future hub for quantum research and secure communication technologies.
