Nvidia Invests $2 Billion in Synopsys to Expand AI-Driven Chip Design Partnership

New Delhi: Nvidia has taken a $2 billion equity stake in Synopsys as both companies move to broaden their collaboration on AI-enabled semiconductor design tools. The investment, disclosed on Monday, involves Nvidia purchasing Synopsys shares at $414.79 each, slightly below the prior closing price. The move signals Nvidia’s intent to deepen its role in the electronic design automation (EDA) ecosystem as AI reshapes chip development processes.

Under the expanded partnership, Synopsys will integrate Nvidia’s developer tools and AI libraries into its design and verification software used across multiple industries. The arrangement remains nonexclusive, with Synopsys continuing to work with AMD while Nvidia maintains collaborations with Cadence. The companies say the initiative aims to address rising complexity in designing AI-intensive systems that increasingly require tighter alignment between hardware, physics, and software workflows.

Market reactions were mixed: Synopsys shares rose about 7% in premarket trading, while Nvidia stock dipped around 2%. The deal adds to Nvidia’s growing series of large investments, including a $5 billion stake in Intel and major commercial arrangements with OpenAI. Analysts note that such interdependencies could shape competition and innovation within the AI supply chain as firms seek greater control over key design capabilities.
