New Delhi: As the platform continues to grow in one of its biggest international regions, YouTube has appointed Gunjan Soni as its new Country Managing Director for India, a critical leadership move.
Soni contributes more than twenty years of expertise in e-commerce, technology, marketing and business strategy. She most recently held the position of Group CEO at ZALORA in Singapore, where she oversaw the expansion of the business into new markets, introduced reward schemes, and prioritised improving personalisation.
Soni held executive vice president and chief marketing officer roles at Star India and Myntra before joining ZALORA. She started out with McKinsey & Company and rose to the position of Partner in the practice of Consumer and Marketing. Additionally, she is a board member of Fortune’s CBRE Group.
Soni’s profound knowledge of the creative economy and India’s digital ecosystem is a valuable asset for YouTube’s next stage of growth, according to Gautam Anand, Vice President of YouTube APAC, who announced the hiring.
Soni was born and raised in India. He graduated from Barkatullah University with a degree in computer science and XLRI Jamshedpur with an MBA in finance. In response to her hiring, she expressed her excitement about working with Indian creators, assisting in the growth of video commerce and shorts prospects, and enhancing YouTube’s intergenerational interaction.
Soni emphasised the platform’s wide appeal, pointing out that members of her own family of various ages find it appealing. She reaffirmed her dedication to helping creators and strengthening ties between audiences, content, and businesses in India’s quickly changing digital landscape.
