Bengaluru: IBM has announced plans to skill 5 million learners across India in artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and quantum computing by 2030.
The initiative aims to expand access to education in emerging technologies across schools, universities, and vocational and skilling ecosystems, supporting India’s growing digital economy.
Collaboration with Academic Institutions
As part of the program, IBM will collaborate with institutions such as the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). The focus will be on building hands-on AI learning pathways through faculty enablement programs, curriculum integration, hackathons, and internship opportunities.
These efforts are intended to bridge the gap between academic learning and industry requirements.
Leadership View on India’s Potential
IBM Chairman, President, and Chief Executive Officer Arvind Krishna said India has the talent and ambition to lead globally in AI and quantum technologies. He stated that fluency in frontier technologies will shape economic competitiveness, scientific progress, and broader societal transformation.
According to him, IBM’s commitment to skilling five million people is an investment in India’s future, aimed at democratizing access to advanced skills and empowering youth to innovate and drive growth.
Strengthening AI Education at the School Level
IBM is also working to build early readiness by co-developing an AI curriculum for senior secondary students. The initiative includes teaching resources such as an AI Project Cookbook, teacher handbooks, and explainer modules. These tools are designed to introduce computational thinking and responsible AI concepts early, while helping teachers deliver AI education confidently and at scale.
IBM SkillsBuild at the Core
At the heart of the initiative is IBM SkillsBuild, a global technology learning platform. The program offers over 1,000 courses covering AI, cybersecurity, quantum computing, cloud, data, sustainability, and workplace readiness for learners, educators, and institutions across India.
