Flipkart Buys Majority Stake In GenAI Startup Minivet AI To Strengthen Video-Led Commerce

Bengaluru: Flipkart has acquired a majority stake in Bengaluru-based Minivet AI as it sharpens its focus on generative AI for e-commerce.

The acquisition signals Flipkart’s intent to deepen in-house GenAI capabilities at a time when online retail is increasingly moving toward visual and conversational product discovery. Founded in 2024, Minivet AI develops AI-led tools that convert static product listings into automated video content, aiming to improve how products are presented and discovered on digital platforms.

According to Flipkart, Minivet AI’s technology will be integrated into its core systems, particularly in areas such as catalog videofication and semantic search. These capabilities are seen as critical for improving engagement and decision-making in large-scale marketplaces where users browse millions of products. The deal also brings Minivet AI’s engineering talent and proprietary AI stack into Flipkart’s technology ecosystem.

Minivet AI has positioned itself beyond video generation, offering a broader suite of AI solutions for e-commerce platforms, including conversational interfaces. Flipkart plans to deploy these tools across its platform over time, with potential use cases extending to other group companies such as Myntra and Cleartrip.

The financial details of the transaction were not disclosed. The acquisition is subject to customary closing conditions.

For Flipkart, which serves over 500 million registered users and hosts more than 1.4 million sellers, the move reflects a broader industry shift toward AI-driven commerce experiences. As competition intensifies among large marketplaces, control over core AI infrastructure is emerging as a strategic differentiator rather than a peripheral technology investment.
