Hyundai Motor India Names Tarun Garg as the First Indian MD & CEO

Gurugram: Hyundai Motor India Limited has appointed Tarun Garg as its Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), marking a major leadership milestone for the automaker.

With this appointment, Garg has become the first Indian national to lead Hyundai Motor India since the company entered the country nearly three decades ago.

The appointment comes at a pivotal moment as Hyundai Motor Group sharpens its focus on India as a key growth, manufacturing, and export hub. Hyundai began operations in India in 1996 and has since built one of its largest global markets in the country.

Garg succeeds the outgoing leadership with over 32 years of experience in the automotive industry, spanning sales, marketing, distribution, finance, product strategy, and brand building. He has played a central role in Hyundai Motor India’s recent growth phase. As Head of Sales, Service, and Marketing, and later as Whole-time Director and Chief Operating Officer, Garg helped steer the company through a period of strong performance.

As MD and CEO, Garg will lead Hyundai Motor India’s next phase of expansion, with a sharp focus on future mobility. His responsibilities will include strengthening Hyundai’s dealer and supplier ecosystem, increasing localisation across manufacturing operations, and reinforcing India’s role as an export base for emerging markets under Hyundai Motor Group’s global manufacturing strategy.

Prior to joining Hyundai, Garg spent several years at Maruti Suzuki India, where he rose to the position of Executive Director, overseeing marketing, logistics, and parts and accessories. He holds a mechanical engineering degree from Delhi Technological University and an MBA from IIM Lucknow.
