New Delhi | Barcelona: At the Mobile World Congress, Qualcomm Technologies unveiled a strategic coalition with global partners to accelerate the development of 6G networks, outlining a roadmap that targets commercial rollout from 2029.
The company said the next generation of wireless technology will be built as an AI-native system, embedding artificial intelligence into the core of network architecture. Unlike 5G, 6G networks are expected to dynamically manage spectrum, optimise traffic in real time and improve energy efficiency, enabling ultra-low latency and intelligent connectivity for emerging applications.
Early demonstrations are planned during the development phase to establish scalable deployment models before the end of the decade. Industry stakeholders believe AI-driven networks will underpin immersive extended reality, autonomous mobility, remote healthcare and advanced industrial automation.
In India, Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel have begun engaging in global 6G ecosystem discussions, aligning with standards bodies and technology vendors. However, Vodafone Idea has yet to visibly join initiatives linked to Qualcomm’s 6G roadmap.
