New Delhi: Yotta Infrastructure, part of the Hiranandani Group, will invest $1.5 billion to acquire 8,000 additional Nvidia GPUs, expanding its data center capabilities and supporting India’s growing artificial intelligence ecosystem. The investment is closely aligned with the government’s India AI Mission, which seeks to develop sovereign AI models, large language models, and research tailored to the country’s needs.
The company has already deployed its first tranche of 8,000 GPUs, which are being utilized by startups such as Sarvam AI and Soket AI to build indigenous AI models. The new investment will significantly increase computing capacity available to startups and research institutions, helping them train complex neural networks, build predictive models, and test advanced AI applications.
Industry experts highlight that access to high-performance GPUs remains a major bottleneck for AI development in India. Yotta’s expansion is expected to strengthen the country’s digital infrastructure, reduce reliance on overseas resources, and provide a boost to high-performance computing and cloud capabilities.
CEO Sunil Gupta noted that the expansion will ensure India retains data sovereignty while opening opportunities for startups and researchers to scale their work. Analysts suggest the initiative reflects a broader shift in India’s AI strategy, moving from software development to infrastructure-led capacity building.
As AI applications continue to expand into sectors such as healthcare, finance, education, and agriculture, the availability of GPU infrastructure will play a critical role in enabling growth. Yotta’s investment marks a step toward strengthening India’s position in the global AI landscape.
