New Delhi, Apr 28, (CXO Media): Google has enabled users in India to store Aadhaar-based credentials in the Google Wallet, allowing Android users to use their phones for identity verification instead of carrying physical copies.
The feature has been introduced in partnership with the Unique Identification Authority of India. Users can add Aadhaar details to the wallet after OTP verification linked to their registered mobile number. The system shares only limited information required for verification, rather than exposing the full Aadhaar number.
The digital Aadhaar credential can be used for common verification needs such as KYC updates, hotel check-ins, travel bookings, and access to some government-linked services. It is also designed to work offline, which may help in areas with weak internet connectivity.
A few platforms have started accepting the feature, including PVR INOX, BharatMatrimony, Atlys, and Mygate. Wider adoption is expected as more services integrate digital ID verification tools.
