LinkedIn Cuts Hundreds of Jobs, Joins Ongoing Tech Layoff Trend

LinkedIn, a Microsoft-owned professional networking platform, has laid off 281 employees across four California locations.

New Delhi: LinkedIn, the professional networking site owned by Microsoft, is cutting 281 workers across multiple California facilities, according to a recent WARN complaint filed this week.

Four Bay Area locations have been affected by the layoffs, which began on 15 May. The largest number of layoffs occurred at LinkedIn’s Mountain View headquarters, where 159 people lost their jobs.

Following this, 60 workers were let go from the San Francisco headquarters located at 222 Second Street. The company’s Sunnyvale and Carpinteria headquarters reported fewer job losses, with roughly 50 and 12 affected employees, respectively.

This round of layoffs contributes to the growing number of job losses in the technology industry, especially in Silicon Valley, where businesses are constantly reevaluating their workforces in response to shifting market dynamics and financial strains.

LinkedIn, which is frequently seen as the preferred social media platform for professionals and job seekers, is now among the increasing number of companies cutting employees.

The parent firm of LinkedIn, Microsoft, also implemented layoffs earlier this month that affected 86 workers in several Bay Area facilities, underscoring larger company initiatives to optimise operations.

Even though LinkedIn is still a crucial resource for job seekers and professional networking worldwide, these layoffs are a reflection of the larger unpredictability and restructuring that the tech sector is going through right now.
