New Delhi: Apple has announced the appointment of Sabih Khan, an Indian-origin executive, as its new Chief Operating Officer (COO), replacing longtime Apple veteran Jeff Williams who is set to retire later this year. The leadership change comes as the tech giant faces increasing global supply chain challenges, tariff uncertainties, and slowing iPhone sales.
Khan, currently serving as Apple’s Senior Vice President of Operations, will formally step into his new role later this month. He has been with Apple for nearly three decades, joining the company in 1995 as part of its procurement team. Over the years, he has overseen Apple’s global supply chain and supplier responsibility programs, key areas that have become increasingly complex in today’s geopolitical and economic environment.
Williams, who has served as COO since 2015, will continue to work closely with CEO Tim Cook until his retirement, overseeing the design team and Apple Watch division during the transition period. After Williams’ departure, the design team will report directly to Cook.
Born in 1966 in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, Khan moved to Singapore during his early school years and later to the United States. He holds dual bachelor’s degrees in economics and mechanical engineering from Tufts University and a master’s degree in mechanical engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI).
Before joining Apple, Khan worked at GE Plastics as an applications development engineer and key account technical leader. His nearly 30-year tenure at Apple has included overseeing the delivery of major product launches and streamlining global operations, responsibilities that will expand further in his new role.
