Dell adds All-Flash backup system to PowerProtect portfolio amid rising cyber threats

New Delhi: Dell Technologies has expanded its PowerProtect portfolio with the launch of an all-flash backup appliance and additional security features, reflecting the growing urgency for enterprises to strengthen data protection and recovery strategies. The development comes at a time when research indicates that while 88% of organizations expect generative AI to drive faster data growth, nearly two-thirds back up less than half of their information, leaving them exposed to cyber risks such as ransomware and operational disruptions.

The centerpiece of the announcement is the PowerProtect Data Domain All-Flash appliance, which is designed to improve recovery speeds and reduce downtime. According to Dell, the new system can restore data up to four times faster and replicate it at double the previous speed, while also enhancing analytics for quicker validation of data integrity within its Cyber Recovery vault. The appliance is also positioned as more energy efficient, requiring 40% less rack space and consuming up to 80% less power, while offering built-in protections such as immutable backups, end-to-end encryption, and a hardware root of trust.

Alongside the all-flash system, Dell has introduced portfolio-wide upgrades, including expanded support for Red Hat Enterprise Linux, integration with object storage providers like Wasabi, and improved ransomware recovery capabilities through CyberSense analytics for Oracle workloads. PowerProtect Backup Services have also been extended to Microsoft Azure, supporting recovery for Microsoft 365, Dynamics 365, Azure VMs, and Entra ID. These updates underscore the increasing emphasis enterprises are placing on resilience as cyber threats continue to escalate.
