HCLTech appoints Amitabh Kant as Independent Director

Noida: HCLTech, a leading global technology company, has announced the appointment of Amitabh Kant as an Independent Director on its Board, effective September 8, 2025.

Kant most recently served as India’s G20 Sherpa. In this role, he played a pivotal part in leading India’s G20 Presidency (2022–2023), which resulted in the unanimous adoption of the historic New Delhi Leaders’ Declaration. 

Kant’s career spans several decades in public service, where he has held some of the most influential policy-making positions in India. As the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of NITI Aayog for over six years, he initiated transformative programs, including the Aspirational Districts Program, aimed at accelerating development in India’s most underprivileged regions. He also led initiatives such as Startup India, Make in India, the Production Linked Incentive Schemes (PLI), and reforms in Ease of Doing Business.

Earlier in his career, Kant served as Secretary, Tourism, Government of Kerala, where he conceptualized the now-iconic ‘God’s Own Country’ campaign that revived Kerala’s tourism sector and showcased its culture and cuisine globally. 

Kant’s contributions have been recognized internationally. He was awarded the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star (2023) by the Government of Japan, the Sir Edmund Hillary Fellowship by the Prime Minister of New Zealand, and is also a Chevening Scholar. An accomplished author, he has written six books and numerous articles on governance and policy.

In his new role at HCLTech, Kant will be instrumental in shaping the company’s growth strategy going further.
