New Delhi: London-based technology firm Nothing has announced that CMF, its design-focused sub-brand, will now operate as an independent subsidiary with India as its global headquarters. The move positions India as the centre for CMF’s research, development, manufacturing and worldwide operations, underscoring the country’s growing role in next-generation consumer technology.
To scale this vision, Nothing has entered a strategic manufacturing joint venture with Indian electronics major Optiemus Infracom. The partnership will invest more than $100 million over the next three years and create over 1,800 jobs, making India a global production and export hub for Nothing and CMF products. Nothing has already been invested over $200 million in India.
Carl Pei, CEO of Nothing, said India will be key to shaping the global smartphone industry. “With our end-to-end capabilities, we are uniquely positioned to build CMF into India’s first truly global smartphone brand. Our joint venture with Optiemus is a key milestone toward making that vision a reality,” he noted.
Optiemus Executive Chairman Ashok Gupta called the collaboration a testament to the strength of the Indian ecosystem and the government’s Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat initiatives. He said the tie-up will enable export-ready products designed and built in India.
The announcement follows a series of India-focused moves, including CMF relocating its global marketing team to the country and appointing Himanshu Tandon as VP of CMF Business. Nothing recently closed a $200 million Series C funding round at a $1.3 billion valuation, reinforcing its plans to build “a brand in India, for the world.”
