New Delhi: Apna.co has introduced an AI-driven verification system, Apna Safety, to counter rising job scams in India during the festive hiring season.
The platform said the tool authenticates recruiters through GST, PAN, CIN, and Aadhaar data, assigning each a credibility score. Recruiter accounts flagged as suspicious are classified as active, blocked, or unregistered, enabling jobseekers to check authenticity using just a phone number.
In its pilot run between August and September 2025, the system verified over 1.46 lakh recruiters. According to Apna.co, this contributed to a 45% fall in reported scam exposure and a 60% drop in safety-related complaints. The company also noted that user trust improved on the app, reflected in higher ratings on Google Play.
The AI tool is designed to detect patterns in fraudulent postings, including demands for registration fees, security deposits, or training charges. Jobseekers receive real-time alerts within the app to avoid scams, particularly in sectors such as e-commerce, logistics, telecalling, and customer support—areas that have seen a surge in fraudulent job advertisements.
The launch comes as job-related fraud continues to be a major concern in India. Data from the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) shows that cyber fraud cost Indians over Rs 22,800 crore in 2024, with job scams alone accounting for Rs 5,100 crore. Fresh graduates and frontline workers remain the most vulnerable groups.
By introducing verification and alert mechanisms, platforms like Apna.co are attempting to address systemic risks in online hiring. The move highlights the growing role of AI in safeguarding digital employment platforms, especially during periods of high job demand.
