Tata Communications Secures 51% of Commotion Inc. to Scale AI-Powered Digital Services

Tata Communications acquires 51% stake in Commotion Inc. to accelerate AI-driven customer experiences and scale enterprise automation across its Digital Fabric.

New Delhi: Tata Communications announced on 2 December that it has acquired a 51 per cent stake in Commotion Inc., an AI-native enterprise SaaS company with operations in the US and India. The deal marks a significant step in accelerating AI adoption across Tata Communications’ Digital Fabric portfolio, as the company aims to strengthen its capabilities in intelligent and automated customer interactions.

The acquisition will primarily bolster Tata Communications’ Customer Interaction Suite, which includes Tata Communications Kaleyra. By integrating Commotion’s artificial intelligence orchestration engine with Kaleyra’s existing platforms, such as the Kaleyra TX Hub, channels and Contact Centre as a Service (CCaaS), the company plans to shift enterprise communications from reactive handling to predictive and generative engagement across multiple touchpoints.

Commotion currently supports global enterprises through three core offerings: omnichannel customer experience automation for real-time, data-driven and hyper-personalised communication; advanced voice AI solutions powered by ultra-low-latency speech-to-speech AI models; and autonomous digital agents capable of managing continuous customer-facing as well as internal enterprise processes. Its platform combines Voice AI, an Agentic AI Builder and Omnichannel Journey Orchestration to help companies automate complex workloads and deliver personalised experiences at scale, while improving operational efficiency.

Tata Communications said the acquisition enhances the value proposition for its global customer base and will accelerate its own transition into an AI-first organisation. With Commotion integrated into the Digital Fabric portfolio, the company plans to support enterprises that are moving from AI exploration to large-scale deployment for business transformation.

S. Lakshminarayanan, Managing Director and CEO of Tata Communications, described the acquisition as a “significant step” in redefining customer experience in the AI era. He added that early integration efforts have already demonstrated strong customer traction.

Czmmotion CEO Murali Swaminathan called the acquisition a milestone driven by a “shared purpose,” stating that the collaboration aims to scale responsible AI innovation globally and “transform the way the world works.”
