New Delhi: As part of its $3 billion expanded local sourcing strategy, sportswear company Decathlon has announced ambitions to create three lakh jobs in India by 2030. This is a significant employment push.
With an emphasis on empowering young people and semi-skilled workers, the action is expected to open up a significant number of job possibilities throughout India’s manufacturing facilities, logistical centres and retail stores. By working with regional suppliers, MSMEs and skilling partners, the company hopes to improve its current worker pipeline and provide stable, long-term jobs in both urban and semi-urban locations.
“We’re not just building a supply chain, we’re investing in people,” said a company spokesperson. The focus will be on training workers in product assembly, quality assurance, warehouse tech and store operations, with special emphasis on gender-inclusive hiring and sustainable manufacturing.
A large portion of Decathlon’s global product supply now comes from India and this move will result in an expansion of vendor relationships to satisfy growing demand both domestically and internationally.
The program may serve as a template for employment-led foreign investment in retail since it is in line with India’s national employment goals and Make in India initiatives.
