New Delhi: Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has announced the formation of a dedicated artificial intelligence and services transformation unit to consolidate its AI strategy and strengthen digital transformation offerings for global clients. The new unit will be led by Amit Kapur, who currently oversees the UK and Ireland business and will assume the role of Chief AI and Services Transformation Officer from 1 September, reporting directly to Aarthi Subramanian, Executive Director, President and COO of TCS.
The move comes at a time when demand for enterprise AI adoption and automation services is accelerating worldwide. By unifying its AI and data capabilities, which were separated from the cloud business during the Q4FY25 restructuring, TCS aims to streamline investments, improve alignment with horizontal service lines, and deliver domain-specific AI solutions more effectively. The unit will also build on partnerships with cloud and AI-native firms to strengthen delivery capabilities.
Industry analysts view the development as a shift in TCS’s competitive strategy. While the company has been relatively measured in expanding its AI portfolio compared to peers such as Accenture and Cognizant, the creation of a standalone unit signals a more structured and aggressive approach to AI-led transformation. According to Everest Group, this move demonstrates TCS’s intent to remain competitive in the fast-evolving digital services market. TCS CEO and MD K Krithivasan has emphasised that separating AI and data from cloud services will allow the company to deploy resources more efficiently and address distinct skills required across the two segments.
