New Delhi: In a significant development at the Startup Mahakumbh event held in Delhi, Paytm’s Founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Vijay Shekhar Sharma, announced the launch of an upgraded version of its payment soundbox, named the Mahakumbh Soundbox. The latest device comes with a display screen, offering merchants a more private and flexible payment experience.

- Key Features
The Mahakumbh Soundbox allows merchants to mute the traditional voice-based payment announcements. Instead, transaction details are shown on the display screen, enabling a more discreet payment process. This new feature is expected to be particularly useful for vendors handling large transactions or operating in sensitive environments.
Sharma highlighted that the device also has the capability to queue multiple payments, making it easier for merchants to process transactions without any interruptions.
- Enhanced Privacy and Connectivity
The upgraded device comes with a 4G connection and supports 11 different languages, ensuring smooth functionality across diverse regions of India. Ripunjai Gaur, Chief Business Officer for Offline Payments at Paytm, stated that vendors often prefer not to have payment amounts announced publicly. The new update is designed to address this concern, offering both privacy and operational flexibility to merchants.
- Customer Data Security
Addressing privacy concerns, Sharma assured that customer details, such as names or phone numbers, are never shared with the merchant through the device. Only the payment amount is displayed, maintaining customer confidentiality.
With the launch of the Mahakumbh Soundbox, Paytm aims to cater to the evolving needs of merchants, combining privacy, convenience, and advanced technology in its latest offering.
