Noida: The Data Security Council of India (DSCI), in collaboration with German multinational Siemens, has established an Operational Technology (OT) Cybersecurity Lab at the NASSCOM campus in Noida. The facility is designed to support India’s efforts to secure critical infrastructure and strengthen resilience against cyber threats targeting operational technology systems.

According to DSCI, the lab will provide a controlled environment for testing, validating, and developing cybersecurity solutions relevant to industrial and infrastructure sectors. It will also serve as a research and training hub, offering hands-on exposure to professionals, startups, and industry stakeholders working on OT security. The testbed is equipped to study vulnerabilities, assess risk management approaches, and experiment with defense-in-depth strategies tailored for OT environments.

Officials noted that the initiative is positioned as an extension of the National Centre of Excellence, jointly established by the Ministry of Electronics and IT (MeitY) and DSCI, with the objective of creating collaborative platforms for government, academia, startups, and industry. Insights and findings generated from the lab are expected to be shared with stakeholders to inform timely mitigation strategies and policy discussions.

Experts suggest that the rise of digital transformation in manufacturing and utilities has expanded the attack surface of critical systems, making dedicated facilities such as this lab significant for improving preparedness. By offering access to advanced technology and domain expertise, the lab is expected to encourage innovation among startups and provide policymakers with evidence-based research on emerging OT threats.

The launch reflects ongoing efforts to align India’s cybersecurity ecosystem with global practices while addressing sector-specific challenges in protecting energy, transport, and manufacturing systems.
