Meta Layoffs Hit Oculus Studios Amid Shift to Mixed Reality

New Delhi: In order to concentrate on efficiency and the development of mixed reality in the future, Meta has started a new wave of layoffs inside its Reality Labs business.

According to reports, an unknown number of workers at Oculus Studios, the company that creates virtual and augmented reality games for Meta’s Quest headsets, were affected by the layoffs.

It was also reported that a Meta spokesperson has confirmed the restructuring, stating that the changes are designed to help Oculus Studios “work more efficiently on future mixed reality experiences for our growing audience.” However, the move has come at a human cost, affecting developers tied to some of Meta’s more prominent VR efforts, including the Supernatural fitness app.

“Their contributions have been instrumental in shaping our journey and yours, and their absence will be deeply felt,” the firm wrote in a sorrowful statement posted to the official Supernatural Facebook group in response to the layoffs.

These layoffs come after Meta reduced its employment by five per cent earlier this year after identifying low-performing employees.

At Reality Labs, an experimental section dedicated to creating the metaverse through gadgets and immersive software, Meta has been under pressure to reduce expenses and streamline operations.
