New Delhi: Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has risen to the position of the world’s second-richest person, surpassing Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index released on 5 May.
The ranking reflects Zuckerberg’s individual stock market gains and Meta‘s impressive financial performance. He now has a net worth of $212 billion, surpassing Bezos’s $209 billion.
The reorganisation at the top of the global wealth ladder follows a 16% increase in Meta’s share price in April compared to a 6.33% increase in Amazon’s. On 5 May, alone, Zuckerberg made $846 million as Meta’s stock increased 0.38% during regular trading before slightly declining after hours. On the other hand, Bezos lost $2.9 billion that same day.
Wall Street was pleasantly surprised by Meta’s first-quarter earnings, which were announced on 1 May. In contrast to the $41.39 billion expectation, the company’s reported revenue was $42.31 billion.
SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, on the other hand, is still the richest person in the world, with an estimated net worth of $331 billion. Following his statements on Tesla’s Q1 results call, in which he promised to lessen his involvement with the US government’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), Musk’s wealth increased by $7.5 billion on 23 April.
“Starting next month, May, my time allocation to DOGE will drop significantly,” Musk said. “I’ll continue to spend a day or two per week on government matters for as long as the President would like me to do so.”
